Description
Due to popular demand, we have made some giant monkey fist door stops from Grandad’s retired fishing rope in St Ives. We only have 2 of these “braa gee things!” available – so if you want one, be quick!
These are made from hemp rope, so are whipped rather than burnt off – as hemp is natural and highly flammable.
Measuring 15cm in diameter and 47cm in length they are each £45 plus postage.
A monkey fist is a traditional knot used by fisherman. A shore line with a monkey fist tied to the end was thrown ashore. Then the other end of the shore line still aboard the boat was tied to a heavier mooring rope to enable it to be pulled ashore.
These Monkey Fist Doorstops have the traditional knot at one end and a spliced loop at the other.
