Description

A “monkey fist” is a traditional knot used by fishermen. A shore line with a monkey fist tied to the end was thrown from the boat ashore. Then the other end of the shore line still aboard the boat was tied to a heavier mooring rope to enable that mooring rope to be pulled ashore.

Our ‘Gripsea Monkey Fist’ Tug Toys have the traditional knot at one end and a spliced loop and float handle at the other to give a comfy, grippy handle.  This white float is made from a softer material than a normal plastic float making a very comfy handle.

This tug toy is made from one of Grandad’s favourite coloured ropes – “green and white, or white and green” – from his retired fishing gear. It incorporates a white float spliced into the handle, which is made from a softer material than a normal plastic float, making it a very comfy handle. These white floats were kindly donated by “The Mermaid Basket” who do amazing work with their beach cleaning community at Porthtowan – including their ‘Knotty Fish Pots’ which are beautiful. We are proud to do many “swopseas” with “The Mermaid Basket” and together we are trying to save lots of ghost gear and discarded ropes from going to landfill or incineration. We hope to have lots more “swopseas” with them to come – so watch this space!

Both our ‘Gripsea’ and ‘Traditional’ version of these monkey fist tug toys are great for hurling and retrieving. The Gripsea version is particularly popular with our stronger furry friends for a friendly game of tug-of-war.

Approx 3ft of fishing gear has saved from going to landfill or incineration and now has a new lease of life thanks to this toy.

As with all of our toys, our Gripsea Monkey Fist Tug Toy is for tugging and playing, not for chewing and your dog should not be left unsupervised in case the temptation is too much!
