Description
A monkey fist is a traditional knot used by fisherman. A shore line with a monkey fist tied to the end was thrown ashore. Then the other end of the shore line still aboard the boat was tied to a heavier mooring rope to enable it to be pulled ashore.
Our Monkey Fist Keyrings have the traditional knot at one end and a spliced loop with a keyring at the other.
We have different variations of rope available and this keyring has been made with rope that was rescued by the ‘Stelissa’, 125 miles off Lands End and landed in Newlyn.
The Stelissa got in contact to say they were going to rescue ghost gear and land it back at Newlyn Harbour as it was causing a marine and shipping hazard. They asked if we could help repurpose it to help save it from going to landfill or incineration – together we are giving this ghost gear a new lease of life.
This product saves approx 6ft of rope.
Approx 17cm, with a 6cm diameter
