Description
Due to popular demand and rope becoming available, we have made some giant monkey fist doorstops. We’re only intending to just make a few of these “braa gee things!” mind, so if you want one, be quick!
This “helluva monkey fist” is made from a very chunky retired fishing rope salvaged with the help of our fishermen friends from Newlyn harbour. It is white/blue with a yellow thread – reflecting the colours of the sea, sand and sky. We work with many harbours around Cornwall, where together we are saving salvaged, retired and ghost fishing gear from being sent to landfill or incineration.
This Monkey Fist Doorstop is approx 18cm in diameter, 55cm in length and weighs 850g.
A monkey fist is a traditional knot used by fishermen. A shore line with a monkey fist tied to the end is thrown ashore. Then the other end of the shore line still aboard the boat is tied to a heavier mooring rope to enable it to be pulled ashore.
This Monkey Fist Doorstop has the traditional knot at one end and a straight length at the other which has then been whipped. The straight length can be spliced into a loop handle if preferred. If you’d like to order it as it is, please do so here. Or please contact us if a loop handle is preferred.
