Description

A monkey fist is a traditional knot used by fisherman. A shore line with a monkey fist tied to the end was thrown ashore. Then the other end of the shore line still aboard the boat was tied to a heavier mooring rope to enable it to be pulled ashore.

Our Monkey Fist Keyrings have the traditional knot at one end and a spliced loop with a keyring at the other.

In this new version we have added a lobster clasp clip and ghost gear that was part of the large haul rescued by the ‘Stelissa’ and landed in Newlyn. The lobster clasp gives a quick release option, which is great if, like us, you always lose your keys and you like to clip them to the inside of your bag when you’re beach cleaning.

We have different variations of rope available and this keyring has been made with a slender rope that was kindly donated by the fishermen of St Ives, in Cornwall.

Approx 10cm x 4cm monkey fist.
